Story Summary
The sign hangs over the entrance of the camp and boldly states "Welcome to Camp Run-a-muck." Someone has written in chalk under the sign "where minds are lost as well as campers." The campers have been sent to this camp as a reward by their school for their good grades. Their parents think it is a great opportunity for the girls to spend some quality time relaxing, as well as quality time for the parent, too.

When the girls arrived at camp, they were told that the real reason for the girls being at camp is that the camp is going to be closed next year if the Board of Directors cannot solve the problem of the ghost sightings and things disappearing.

The pride of Camp Run-a-muck is a midget horse named Archie who is your mascot. He has not been seen in 2 days. What has happened to him? Someone in your cabins must be the prankster or thief that has been "borrowing." You are some of the best in the school at problem solving and the camp needs your help.

The sign hung over the entrance of the camp and boldly states "Welcome To Camp Run-a-muck". Then someone wrote in chalk under the sign "where minds are lost as well as campers". Some of the campers are from Shampoo High School (Niceley, Nebraska). They have been sent to this camp as a reward by their school for their good grades, service projects, and their athletic accomplishments of the last year. Their parents think it is a great opportunity for the girls to spend some quality time, relaxing and enjoying the two weeks right after school ends for the summer. Also many of the parents went on a school sponsored trip to Portugal, to study raisin growing for two weeks.

The Shampoo High School classmates were rewarded for two activities that were completed in the last school year. Those assigned to Toad Cabin collected 3,624 pounds of food in 10 days for a local food bank drive. Those assigned to Lizard Cabin were on a team of students that picked up miles of trash along the road leading into town, and using a matching fund from the County, planted 600 small trees and spread 308 pounds of wild flower seeds between the trees.

When they got to camp, they were told that the real reason for the girls being at camp is that the camp is going to be closed next year if the Board of Directors cannot solve the problem of the ghost sightings. The camp closure has been dictated by the State Environmental Agency. They had many complaints from local inhabitants that the ghosts are being disturbed by the girls at the camp. You are some of the best in the school at problem solving.

Eight girls were selected to come to the camp to help with the problem. There were two Junior Counselors assigned to the two cabins. They are not from your school, but are College girls. The camp director has all the compassion of one of the tennis balls that she always carry in her hand. If you don't pay attention she throws it at you. Rumor has it that she was an Officer in the Chilean Paratroopers. Most of the girls are sure that she was the one who was in charge of throwing the recruits out of the plane if they didn't want to jump. Her name is Octavia Rodney. The girls call her Octopus and Sour Puss, but not to her face. None of the campers know how old she is or how long she has been the director.

Camp Run-a-muck (Nearly, Nebraska) offers swimming, volley ball, tennis, lawn bowling, hiking, archery, basketball, golf, singing around the camp fire, kite flying, conservation projects in the camp area (Camp Run-a-muck has 415 acres), rock climbing, a hi-tech computer laboratory, and beautiful scenery.

Right from the first things started to disappear. Each set of two cabins is set apart from all the others by at least 200 yards. Someone in your Cabins must be the prankster/thief that has been "borrowing".

One mile East of Camp Run-a-muck is a rival girls camp, Camp Where-the-heck-are-we. This is a camp for girls that also gives make-up classes much like a summer school. You feel that they are a bunch of rowdy girls. They are very envious of the girls at Camp Run-a-muck, feeling that they are eating too good, sleeping in too nice of cabins, and don't work as hard as they do. Also located nearby on the lake is a boys camp - Camp Porky Pine.

The pride of Camp Run-a-muck is a midget horse who is your mascot. The horse ( named "Archie") is 25 years old and has been the mascot since it was rescued from wild dogs as a pony. It was nursed back to life and brings good luck to all the campers. There have been no deaths or serious injuries since "Archie" arrived. He loves to be fed carrots and fresh fruit by the girls. Now he has not been seen for the past 2 days!

  • Trudy Wick Editor of the school year book. Pretty nosy, but claims she is writing articles for the paper. She knows lots of secrets. Is here because she is the Editor.
May Bee A 20 year old Sophomore. Was “Miss Clean Up” at the school track games. Is teased about her age and won’t say why she is so old.
Judy Green A nice Senior who was the President of the National Honor Society. Some think she is a spy for Principal Ballenger and was sent here to report on how the other girls acted.
Ellie Kelly Cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. Beauty runs in her family. Some think it is Black Beauty, the horse. Sour grapes.
Taffey Puller Junior who is the Volley Ball team captain for next year. One of the real favorites at school with the boys. Has four Varsity Letters already.
Belle Ringger Her family must have really had a grudge against her to give her a name like this. She is really a nice girl. Well, sort of nice. At least she has a nice smile.
Pearl Diver Student Council President for the last two years. Now she is a Junior and wants to organize the annual musical. Has chosen “My Fair Lady” because she says she can play the lead with her talent.
Val N. Tine A counselor of Lizard Cabin. She's a Freshman in college and at the camp because she won a special award for swimming at the Junior Olympics.
Candy Kane A counselor in the Toad Cabin. A Sophomore who was also a winner at the Junior Olympics in Tumbling. Likes to read mystery novels and sun herself.
Bunnie Rabit Freshman invited to the camp because of her outstanding support of the Girl Scout Cookie drive last year. A mysterious benefactor has paid her way and asks that she be housed with the Shampoo girls.

These characters are in addition to the 10 players.

Ickle Ditch With a name like this, would you believe anything else that some one tells you about her. Just enjoy her company and don’t expect too much.
Angel Eyes An exchange student that many think should be taken back and exchanged again. She has a problem with her grades. Ask her about it.
Klyda Humbel A traveling painter. Do you know any fences, houses, or sheds that need painting. Has colors will travel.
Ginny Willis A real snoop. Always asking questions, and making notes. Is she a spy for the PTA. What is she doing at camp?
    R. U. Redd If she acts lost most of the time, there is a reason. Find out why she does not like raw fish and mushrooms.
See Yoo A real sport. Associates with famous people. Working her way through college.
Rhonda Scott She has a story and a life you won’t believe. You need to ask her. We don’t have space enough to tell it.
Cecilia Lawrence Certainly not the person in charge of writing brochures about the camp. An interesting camper to talk with.
Beckie Beemiss Has an unusual story to share about a camp experience. She may have seen the opening scenes of “Men In Black” one time too many.
Arlene Whipple A girl in the game.

Shampoo High Girls at Camp Run-a-Muck
We purchased Shampoo High Girls at Camp Run-a-Muck last year and enjoyed it. We're looking forward to another Shampoo High Mystery.

A few years back I wanted a mystery party for my birthday. Like many others, I wanted a clean one and couldn't find it. I also wanted an "all girls" party if possible. After finding your site, I decided on Shampoo High Girls at Camp Run-a-Muck. It was a BLAST! We had a "registration table", where everyone got their name tags, schedule, and a "Survival Kit" (canvas goody bag w/water bottle, granola bar, whistle, etc.). We decorated our kitchen as a cafeteria, and put each "cabin" in a different corner of the room. Because of this, a good deal of rivalry broke out between cabin members!

It rained the day of the party, but it just made the camp theme all the better. By the way, I'm looking forward to getting Shampoo High's sequel!

We bought this game for our daughter's birthday last year and would like to order another game for this year. The girls would not stop playing the game and asking each other questions for almost 3 hours. It was a howling success. What would you suggest for this year?

Shampoo High Girls at the Fair
I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed the mystery game....I had 10 girls (11 years old). I sat with them and helped them with questions and moved things along when they didn't know what to ask next....They especially enjoyed the ending about what each character ended up doing.

I had a mystery party for my 13th birthday...and we played the Shampoo High Girls at the Fair. We had a blast!  Thanks.

    K.

I ended up ordering the other Shampoo girls game. The girls decided that looked the best, and because we had such a great success with the first one, we thought it was better to stick with what you know. Maybe next year we will try the Lucky Pooch Choker one.
